Wherefore

Thoreau's journal starts off like this:

Oct. 22 [1837]

"What are you doing now?" he asked. "Do you keep a journal?" So I make my first entry today.

That's pretty much the story here. Andrea Hernandez told me I should write a blog on education.
When Andrea Hernandez says something about education, I listen.
That's about it.

  1. So....how are you liking this journal-keeping so far? I'm enjoying following your thoughts and musings. What has stuck out for me most so far: first of all, the de-schooling....I've never heard that predictable formula connected to years in school, and I find that absolutely fascinating.

I also love the question posed to you by the great Jewish teachers.
I'm now trying to learn what "Mechaneches" means. A Google search wants to turn it into "mechanics." So far, I am coming up with it's a mentoring type of relationship between teacher and student? Is it related to unschooling or some kind of more informal learning?

And thank you for the high compliment of thinking I am worth listening to in regard to education. I am a fellow questioner, wonderer and observer. But I guess once in a while I tell other people what they *should* do! And you did it. I hope it proves to be helpful and/or enjoyable.

    1. Thank you very much.
"Mechaneches" is Hebrew, related to the word "chinuch," education. It just means "teacher," female singular.
Maybe it is partly because you see yourself as "a fellow questioner, wonderer and observer" that your proposals always look like such fun to follow.... Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
